ADOBE CAPTIVATE BEST PRACTICES

To ensure the best experience for your Adobe Captivate eLearning courses, PlayerLync recommends using the following settings within your Captivate courses...

QUIZ PREFERENCES

  1. From the menu bar click Quiz > Quiz Preferences...
  2. In the Category list select Quiz > Reporting
    1. Check the box "Enable reporting for this project"
    2. LMS = Other Standard LMSs
    3. Standard = xAPI
    4. Click Configure
      1. Identifier = Enter a unique identifier for the course. This identifier must be unique across all courses within PlayerLync. This identifier is how the course is tracked.
    5. Select the appropriate Completion Criteria and Success Criteria for your course. (Typically we use the "Quiz is Passed" criteria)
    6. Click Advanced
      1. Check the box "Send Data on Every Slide"
        1. This will ensure the xAPI statements are sent after each slide is viewed. This will ensure the course records are sent in near realtime to the PlayerLync server.
  3. In the Category list select Quiz > Pass or Fail
    1. Pass/Fail Options = Choose a percentage or total number of points the learner must obtain to pass the quiz

SAVING AND RESUMING COURSES

In order to allow a learner to save their progress of a course and resume the course at a later time the following settings must be enabled.

  1. From the menu bar click Quiz > Quiz Preferences...
  2. In the Category list select Quiz > Reporting
  3. Click the Advanced button
    1. Uncheck the box "Never Send Resume Data"

If your course contains a Table of Contents you should change this setting. This setting will ensure when the learner resumes the course that is taken from the Web App or the iOS app that their experience remains consistent and they resume from the same location. If this setting is not changed the learner may resume the course in different locations when taking the course in the Web App and the iOS app.

  1. From the menu bar click Project > Table of Contents...
    1. Click Settings
      1. Uncheck the box "Self-Paced Learning"

PUBLISHING SETTINGS

  1. In Captivate click Publish > Publish to Computer
    1. Select the following settings:
      1. Publish as: HTML5 / SWF
      2. Output Format: HTML5 (Do not check "Scalable HTML content". If box is checked, please  uncheck it)

SCALING TO SCREEN SIZE

In order for your course to scale to the appropriate screen size of an iPad and the Web App, you must create the course in a Responsive design. To create a responsive course:

  1. Create a new project and select "Responsive Project"
